Ingredients

Contains:
Preservatives: Phenoxyethanol, Hydroxybenzoates
SUSTAINABILITY
Rating:
Low to Moderate
- Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane (Avobenzone): This UVA filter is non-biodegradable and can produce potentially harmful byproducts when exposed to water and sunlight. It is not considered reef-safe, as it can affect marine life in higher concentrations.
- 4-Methylbenzylidene
Camphor (Enzacamene): This UVB filter is persistent,
non-biodegradable, and known to bioaccumulate in marine organisms. It can act
as an endocrine disruptor and is toxic to coral reefs and fish, making it
unsuited for use in reef-friendly products.
- Octocrylene:
Octocrylene is commonly used in sunscreens for stability but is highly
persistent in the environment and can bioaccumulate in aquatic ecosystems,
affecting coral reefs and other marine life.
- Bemotrizinol:
Bemotrizinol is relatively new, with low water solubility and a reduced risk of
environmental accumulation compared to other chemical filters. It is considered
less harmful to marine life, although its long-term ecological effects are not
yet fully understood.
- Phenoxyethanol:
Often used as a safer alternative to parabens, phenoxyethanol is slow to
biodegrade and can be toxic to aquatic life in high concentrations.
- Hydroxybenzoates
(Parabens): Parabens like methylparaben
and ethylparaben are biodegradable but are also known to disrupt endocrine
systems in marine organisms, even at low concentrations.
